Abstract

AIM: To detect the expression of Ki67 and PCNA in different lesions of larynx and to explore its roles in development of laryngeal caricinoma. METHODS: Immunohistochemical methods were used to detect the combined expression of Ki67 and PCNA in different laryngeal tissue, including 121 cases of laryngeal carcinoma, 23 cases of precarcinoma, 37 cases of vocal cords polypus, 15 cases of normal laryngeal tissues. RESULTS: The positivity rate of Ki67 and PCNA was 75.2%(91/121) and 80.2%(97/121) in laryngeal carcinoma, 47.8%(11/23) and 60.9%(14/23) in precarcinoma, 24.3%(9/37) and 27.0%(10/37) in vocal cords polypus, 13.3%(2/15) and 6.7%(1/15) in normal laryngeal tissues respectively. The positivity rates of Ki67 and PCNA was significantly correlated with the clinical stages, histological types and the neck lymph node metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma ( P0.01, P 0.05), bad have poor relationship with the site of carcinoma ( P 0.05).There was a positive relationship between expression of Ki67 and PCNA ( r=0.74, P 0.01). CONCLUSION: The occurrence, development and prognosis of laryngeal carcinoma may be closely related to the union expression of Ki67 and PCNA.
