Abstract
Objective To investigate the results of vocal rehabilitation in total laryngectomy patients. Methods Nine patients received the esophageal speech training for three weeks after total laryngectomy. Results Seven patients(77.8%) obtained vocal function with varied degrees.Five patients had good phonation,two patients had inferior phonation and two patients remained dysphonia. Conclusion Esophageal speech is a effective phonation way.It possesses the advantages of superior sound quality,lamprophonia,easy to understand and practice,high rate of success and no need for any apparatuses.Besides,it relieves the pain during operation.Thus it is the first choice for vocal rehabilitation of patients without larynx.
