Abstract
Objective To summarize the training experience and the effect of esophageal phonation after total laryngectomy. Methods 59 patients with advanced pypopharyngeal or laryngeal carcinoma were treated with total larngectomy and vocal reconstruction from six 1998 to six 2003 in this hospital were trained for voice rehabilitation by the esophageal. Results Among the 59 patients,53 patients(89.8%) regained the phonation function to a different extent.Only 6 patients could not speak. The speech level of 46 laryngectomees was similar to the normal laryngeal speech level.46 patients had longer maximal phonation time and hearing distance and higher speech intelligibility.Other 7 laryngectomeey had less effectace phonation, but higher intelligibility. The total effective rate was 89.8% (53/59). Conclusion There are many excellences in esophageal phonation training style. It could easily get their voice rehabilitated. The success rate of the speech is higher, the quality of the speech is better than the other methods of the speech rehabilitation.
