Cause of maternal death in Henan province from 2006 to 2009

Aim:To explore the causes of Henan province maternal death.Methods:A retrospective analysis of the materials of 25 maternal death monitoring stations in Henan province from 2006 to 2009.Results:The total of maternal deaths among four years were 280 cases,including 34 patients in urban and 246 patients in rural.Maternal mortality rate fell in 2009,compared with that in 2006.The top five maternal death causes in turn were obstetrics bleeding,amniotic fluid embolization,gestational hypertension disease,pulmonary embolism,and pregnancy with heart disease.The audit results included 163 avoidable cases(58.2%) and 117 inevitable cases(41.8%).Conclusion:We should pay more attention to rural maternal death problem in Henan and formulate corresponding preventive measures and reduce mortality.
