Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To establish a method for platelet membrane glycoproteins (PMGP) detection in the whole blood by flow cytometry (FCM) and to evaluate the methodological factors involved. METHODS: Expressions of PMGP GP I b-I X, GP II b-III a and P-selectin were detected by FCM under different experimental conditions to evaluate the factors affecting their expressions. RESULTS: FCM rapidly and accurately detected PMGP expressions with distinct specificity and sufficient sensitivity, and reduced the chances for artificial activation of the platelet during the experiment. CONCLUSION: FCM provides a new method for PMGP function studies.
