Complications of posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in diabetic cataract

Abstract

Objective:To explore the causes and prevention of the complications after posterior chamber intraocular lens(IOL) implantation in diabetic cataract. Method:Extracapcular cataract extraction (ECCE)and IOL implantation were carried out in 66 eyes of 61 cases with diabetic cataract.Results:There were complications of contraction of pupil in 48 eyes(68.3%) and posterior capsule rupture in 6 eyes(9.1%) in the operation. There were complications of corneal edema in 36 eyes(54.5%),pigment dispersion in 30 eyes(45.5%),significant fibrous exudation in the anterior chamber in 12 eyes(18.2%),posterior synechia in 9 eyes(13.6%),cystic degeneration of macular in 8 eyes(12.1%),and iris rubeosis in 5 eyes(7.6%) after operation.Conclusion: ECCE+IOL implantation is an effect and safe surgery for individuals with diabetic cataract whose blood sugar has been controlled well.
