Discussion on the pathogenesis and treatment of Xinshui based on the relationship among qi,blood and water

Professor Guo Wei-qin,a famous expert in cardiovascular disease of traditional Chinese medicine,has already formed an entirely unique system of treatment of heart disease based on syndrome differentiation,especially in chronic heart failure which is rather significantly effective.Professor Guo put much emphasize on the relationship among qi,blood and water when discussing the pathogenesis and treatment of heart failure.The basic mechanism of the disease could be summarized as deficiency in root cause and excess in manifestation.Specifically,heart yang(qi/blood) deficiency is the root cause while static blood,water retention and phlegmatic fluid are the manifestation.In other words,heart qi deficiency is the base of pathology,and blood stasis is the central part of the pathology,and phlegmatic fluid and water dampness are the results of the pathology.In a word,the pathological change of qi,blood and water played important roles in heart failure disease.Speaking of the treatment of heart failure,Professor Guo put the relationship among the above three materials in a critically important place.She not only used herbs with the functions of tonifying and regulating qi,but also emphasized the usage of herbs for activating blood and resolving stasis.What is more,she always added herbs for inducing diuresis to alleviate edema to relieve the uncomfortable syndromes.At the end of this article,a case report is analyzed to demonstrate the theory mentioned above.
