Abstract
Objective To investigate the antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli(E.coli) in Xinqiao Hospital and provide the credible antimicrobial susceptibility test(ATB) results for clinical antibiotic use. Methods A total of 377 clinical isolates of E.coli were collected from different districts of Xinqiao Hospital from January 1999 to December 2002.Bacteria were identified with API system.K B methods were performed to detect the drug resistances of these strains. Results E.coli was sensitive to imipenem, piperacillin tazobactam, nitrofurantoin, ceftazidime, amikacin and the antibiotic resistance was 7.20%,10.83%,14.70%,16.62%,18.65%,respectively.E.coli was resistant to amoxicillin,piperacillin,trimethoprim/sulfa,ampicillin and the antibiotic resistances were all above 70%.Conclusion E.coli is one of the important pathogens that cause extensive clinical infections.Clinical antibiotic use should accord to the AST results.
