Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum resistin concentration and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) with macroangiopathies. Methods: Of one hundred and twenty eight cases of type 2 DM selected randomly into the study, 85 had at least one kind of vascular complication(DA), and 61 were controls. The clinical and biochemical data of all subjects were recorded and fasting serum resistin concentration was measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Significant difference was revealed between DA(+) and DA (-) groups (P0.05). Serum resistin level was positively correlated with the levels of BMI, Waist, WHR, BF%, TG, ApoB, FINS, ISI, SBP and DBP(P0.05) and negatively correlated with ISI level(P0.05). The stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that resistin variations had significantly positive correlation with BF%, FINS, SEX and Waist (R2=0.78). Conclusion: The correlation between higher levels of serum resistin and hyperinsulinemia suggests that resistin may play an important role in type 2 diabetes and diabetic angiopathy pathogenesis.
