Abstract
There have been few studies on the spatial development pattern of Hebei coastal port city undertaking the functions expansion from Beijing as the Word City. Based on the fact that World Cities take shape by spatial coupling between the Capital city and the port city according to international development perspective, this paper studied the strategic meeting point of Qinhuangdao City integrating into the Beijing World City functions expansion, calculated the degree of aggregation and diffusion from 2008 to 2012 for spatial analysis on the characteristics and trends of Qinhuangdao City. The results show that the modern international coastal city with thesecond living roomis the major meeting point for Qinhuangdao undertaking the Beijing World City functions expansion. For the polycentric and networked spatial pattern is the best development pattern for Qinhuangdao to extend the functions and spillovers of Beijing World City. Consequently, the study suggested that theHerringbone Axisspatial structure of urban system should be established, in which the overall layout oftwo axes, two wings and four polescan further develop the polycentric and networked spatial pattern. Moreover, Qinhuangdao should organize the hub- networked undertaking platform to extend the functions and spillovers of Beijing World City by constructing the National second living room, the international coastal tourist port and the capital of strategic emerging industries zone.
