Research on the New Urban Spatial Structure in Beijing City Master Planning

Urban spatial structure records the evolution of city history and its culture.The Convex-shaped old city,displayed by Beijing's second ring road,is the masterpiece of Ming Beijing City done by Ming ancestors.Ming Beijing City has a great reputation all around the world,especially for its south-north axis across the whole city.In fact,the whole construction of the city is centered on the axis and expanded symmetrically.To some extent,the axis is the most valuable treasure during Beijing's whole city construction process.Ever since the foundation of P.R.China in 1949,new concepts of urban spatial structure such as 'developing the four peripheries while centered the inner city',dispersing cluster,green belt,'two-axis-two-belt and multiple centers',and Chang'an Avenue-South-North Axis-Cross,have made Beijing a real modern metropolis.Beijing is becoming larger and larger,but the origin and spirit of its urban spatial structure has never changed.That is the south-north axis.Beijing has made several rounds of city master plan,all of which have made the axis a central status.The axis is the basic nature of Beijing's urban spatial structure.
