Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To observe the therapeutic efficacy of dexamethasone on acute or chronic hepatitis associated with hyperbilirubinemia.METHODS:60 patients with acute or chronic hepatitis treated in our hospital from 2007 to 2010 were randomly assigned to receive dexamethasone(short term shock therapy) plus routine therapy(treatment group) or routine therapy alone(control group). The liver function and total bilirubin were tested before and after treatment, and the therapeutic efficacy in the two groups was evaluated.RESULTS:There were significant differences in plasma levels of TB(total bilirubin) and ALB(albumin) for the treatment group at the time of discharge as compared with those at the time of admission(P 0.05),and there were also significant differences between the treatment group and the control group regarding plasma TB level at the time of discharge(P 0.05).There were significant differences between the treatment group and the control group in total effective rate(93.33% vs.73.33%,P 0.05).The therapeutic efficacy in the treatment group was much better than in the control group.CONCLUSION:Dexamethasone has remarkable therapeutic efficacy and good safety in the treatment of acute or chronic hepatitis associated with hyperbilirubinemia.
