Comparison of Therapeutic Efficacies of Montelukast and Salmeterol/fluticasone Alone or Combined Use of Them in the Treatment of Adult Postinfectious Cough

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the therapeutic efficacies of montelukast and salmeterol/fluticasone alone or combined use of them in the treatment of adult postinfectious cough.METHODS:68 adult patients with postinfectious cough(daytime and nighttime cough symptom scored 3 points or above) were randomly divided into three groups:montelukast group,salmeterol/fluticasone group and montelukast combined with salmeterol/fluticasone group(combination group).Patients in every group received relevant medicine for 2 weeks,respectively.All patients' cough symptom scores were recorded before and 2 weeks later after treatment.The therapeutic efficacy and lung function were compared among 3 groups.RESULTS:The cough symptom scores of montelukast group,salmeterol/fluticasone group and combination group were 3.67±1.72,2.79±1.50 and 1.81±1.01,respectively,all decreased obviously after 2 weeks or treatment.The score of combination group was lower than that of montelukast group and salmeterol/fluticasone group(P0.05).The effective rates of montelukast group,salmeterol/fluticasone group and combination group were 73.9%,68.2%,87.0%,respectively.There were statistical significance in different between combination group and montelukast group or salmeterol/fluticasone group(P0.05).FEV1/predicted value and FEV1/FVC of 3 groups had no statistical significance before and after treatment(P0.05).CONCLUSIONS:Montelukast and salmeterol/fluticasone are both effective in the treatment of adult postinfectious cough;montelukast combined with salmeterol/fluticasone can be a better choice for the treatment of adult postinfectious cough.
