On English-Chinese Cultural Differences and Translating Techniques

Abstract

Language is a carrier of culture.Translation is not only the transformation between two different languages,but also a pattern of cultural transformation.It is essential to take cultural differences into consideration in translation,otherwise mistranslation will occur.Chinese culture differs from English culture in history,thinking patterns and religious beliefs.Therefore,literal translation,free translation and flexible translation can be adopted accordingly.
