Status of HBV infection and its awareness in freshmen in a university

Abstract
Objective To investigate the status of HBV infection and its awareness in freshmen of Jiaying University. Methods A total of 1 876 students were tested for HBsAg,HBsAb,HBeAg,HBeAb,HBcAb,ALT and AST,and their awareness of HBV knowledge also investigated with self-designed questionnaire.Results The positive rate of HBsAg was 12.78%,the rate of HBsAg,HBeAg and HBcAb all positive was 5.60%,the rate of HBsAg,HBeAb and HBcAb all positive was 4.42%.Totally 17 persons were HBsAg-positive and ALT and AST increasing with 0.91% of all HBsAg positive persons.Totally 59.50% of students correctly understand the general knowledge of hepatitis B,and 69.12% of students understand the route of transmission of hepatitis B.Conclusions The positive rate of HBsAg(12.78%) is higher than that of the national average(9.09%).We should enhance the health education and inoculate the vaccine of hepatitis B.
