Comparison of pain of Cortisomol and iodoform paste for root canal filling

Objective To study the occurrence rate and duration time of pain of Cortisomol and iodoform paste for root canal filling. Methods 240 cases(320 teeth) with root canal filling after the dental root canal preparation from May 2011 to May 2013 were selected and divided into Cortisomol group with 115 cases(160 teeth) and iodoform paste group with 125 cases(160 teeth). Gutta-percha combined with Cortisomol were used in Cortisomol group, gutta-percha combined with iodoform paste were used in iodoform paste group. The occurrence rate and duration time of pain after the operation were compared.Results 10 teeth with severe pain, 24 teeth with moderate pain, 17 teeth with mild pain were found in iodoform paste group,the total pain incidence was 31.90%; no patients with severe pain was found in Cortisomol group, 4 teeth with moderate pain,12 teeth with mild pain were found in Cortisomol group, the total incidence of pain was 10.00%; the differences of pain incidence was statistically significant(P 0.05). 6 teeth pain within 2 days, the 23 teeth pain last 3-4 days, the 18 teeth pain last 5-6 days, the 4 teeth pain for 7 days or longer were found iodoform paste group; 11 teeth pain within 2 days, in addition to 5 teeth pain lasts 3-4 days, no tooth pain lasts longer were found in Cortisomol group, the differences of pain time was statistically significant(P 0.05). Conclusion The pain incidence of Cortisomol combined with gutta percha in filling mode was significantly low, the pain last time is shorter than the gutta percha, it is worthy of popularization and application.
