Comparison of postoperative pain treated with cortisomol and iodoform in root canal filling

Objective To compare the incidence of pain after root canal filling and duration between cortisomol and iodoform.Methods Two hundred and sixty teeth were randomly divided into two groups.The experimental group(130 teeth) were filled with cortisomol and gutta-percha and the other 130 teeth in the control group were filled with iodoform paste and gutta-percha.The incidence and duration of postoperative dental pain were observed and recorded.Results Pain occurrence of pain after root canal filling in cortisomol group was 10.8%,while in iodoform paste group was32.3%,and there were significant differences between two groups(χ2=4.90,P0.05).The duration of pain after root canal filling in cortisomol group most lasted for 1 to 4 days,while in iodoform group approximately was 3 to 6 days,even more than 7 days,and there were significant differences between two groups(χ2=73.11,P0.01).Conclusion Using cortisomol in the root canal obturation has a significant lower incidence of postoperative pain compared to iodoform paste,meanwhile,the duration of pain in former was shorter,and can effectively reduce the pain of patients.
