Analysis of the Landscape for the South-North Imperial Street of Dongjing in the Northern Song Dynasty

Using the western idea of urban design is a new reseach trend in the study of city history.The article uses the idea of Kevinlynch in The Image of The City,and divides the South-North imperial street of Dongjing in the Northern Song Dynasty into three sections,and analyzes their landscape elements including interface,cross,little items and human activities.By doing so,the urban appearance,emerging in the course of replacing close Li-Fang system with open Street-Market system of Dongjing city,brings to light.This urban appearance has a strong influence on coming unban landscape.
