Diagnosis and clinical characteristics of mycoplasma pneumonia infection in children

Abstract

Objective To study the diagnosis and clinical characteristics of mycoplasma pneumonia infection in children.Methods Mycoplasma pneumonia(Mp)DNA was determined by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) from nasopharyngeal swabs in 656 children with respiratory tract infection whose serum samples were collected on the same day to determine Mp-IgM,and some immunological values were determined in 59 of the children.Results The positive rate of Mp-DNA-PCR was 32.16%,and Mp-IgM was 17.38%,there was significant difference between them(P0.001).The positive rate of Mp-IgM in elder children was higher than that of infant and preschool years children(P0.05).Conclusions The result of Mp-DNA-PCR from nasopharyngeal swabs is not related to the age of children and the result of serum Mp-IgM may be related to the age of children.
