Abstract
AIM To elucidate whether the plasma concentrations of serum soluble P-selection and interleukin-18 in different subtypes of coronary heart disease in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS) are correlated with the severity of the diseases and whether P-selection and IL-18 are reliable biochemical markers indicating the severity of ACS.METHODS Enrolled in this study were 86 patients in Cardiology Department of the Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University from May 2006 to November 2006.The spectrum of ACS only included unstable angina pectoris(UAP) and acute myocardial infarction(AMI).The plasma concentrations of serum soluble P-selection and IL-18 were measured by enzyme linked immunoabsorbent assay. The relationship between plasma soluble P-selection,IL-18 levels and the coronary artery score(the severity of coronary heart disease) was assessed.Data were analyzed by SPSS.RESULTS The concentrations of serum soluble P-selection and IL-18 in patients with ACS were dramatically correlative with the severity of the diseases. The levels of plasma soluble P-selection and IL-18 were obviously higher in the acute coronary syndrome group than those in stable angina pectoris group. The two markers were positively correlated with the Gensini scores.CONCLUSION Plasma concentration of soluble P-selection and IL-18 in patients with ACS can be used as reliable biochemical markers in assessing the degree of the disease. The positive correlation between the two markers and the coronary artery score may indicate that those levels might reflect the severity of coronary heart disease.
