An Analysis of the Cognitive Mechanism of Image Schema and Its Application in Economic Discourses

Abstract

From the aspect of cognitive linguistics,the article introduces the nature and philosophical basis of image schema.Based on the cognitive analysis of the four image schemas PATH schema,SCALE schema,CONTAINER schema,CONDUIT schema and their extensive application in English and Chinese economic discourses,the article puts forward the idea that image schema is the path to spatial conceptual metaphorical meanings and emphasizes the fact that being aware of and grasping image schemas can help people understand economic theories and economic discourses better.
