Abstract

From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the central government,in regulating marriage norms in Xinjiang, acknowledged the marital norms in Xinjiang, although it forbode inter-marriages between ethnic Hans and Mongolians and Uygurs. And this was legally enforced. After the establishment of Republic of China, modern marital legalizations were quickened, which promoted the reforms of marital customs in Xinjiang, the marriage age being restricted in particular. The great changes of marriage laws in Xinjiang during this period represented the advance of the times and regional characteristics.
