Abstract

The Report of the 18 th CPC National Congress declares to encourage the people's consumption and highlights the construction of spiritual civilization. However, with the progress of industrialization, modern consumptionism, featured by expressive consumption, comparison and showing off,has been formed in Chinese society. This irrational consumption style, which emphasizes the individual's desire of consumption and disagrees with the tenet of the construction of spiritual civilization, resulting in great waste of natural resources, huge damage to ecological situation, and hindering the construction of spiritual civilization. Therefore,it is imperative to make clear the meaning of spiritual civilization and the construction of spiritual civilization so as to find out the negative influence of modern consumptionism on the construction of spiritual civilization. Consequently,a new mode of consumption based on saving sources, preserving ecology, ration and equality will be built in order to promote the construction of spiritual civilization and realize the dream of a beautiful China.
