Abstract

The activated carbon was modified by ammonia, and the effect of ammonia concentrate, modification temperature and time on the adsorption properties surface area and surface chemical structure of activated carbon were discussed. The results showed that the ammonia modification broke the pore structure of activated carbon, and was unfavorable for the development of the pore structure. However, ammonia modified introduced basic groups for activated carbon surface, and benefited phenol adsorption. With ammonia concentration increase, iodine adsorption value, specific surface area, total pore volume and micropore volume of activated carbon decreased, methylene blue adsorption value was down to the lowest point and then rise, the surface basic groups and phenol adsorption of activated carbon increased.
