Abstract

Objective To investigate clinical manifestation and prevention of gastroesophageal reflux disease in patients with acute stroke. Methods Patients with acute stroke within four weeks were observed to investigate the incidence and clinical manifestation of gastroesophageal reflux disease and treatment effect with proton pump inhibitor(PPI).Results The results indicated that overall incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease was 24.7% in all 287 patients with acute stroke, and incidence of reflux esophagitis was 9.9%.Among all patients there were higher incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease in unconscioused patients and in patients with tube feed. All patients of gastroesophageal reflux disease were treated with standard PPI therapy. After PPI treatment, significant efficacy was observed in 45 patients(63.4%),improvement in 20 patients(28.2%),and no improvement in 6 patients(8.5%).Conclusion The incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease in patients with acute stroke is high.Better prognosis can be obtained by timely diagnosis and PPI treatment.
