Comparison between Generative Grammar and Cognitive Grammar

Abstract

Both generative grammar and cognitive grammar are against behaviorism for the awareness of theclose relation between human cognition and language; however, there exists great difference between the twotheories. This paper compares generative grammar and cognitive grammar from four aspects: philosophical basis,universal view of language, research methodology and the status of semantics.
