Abstract

This paper introduces the preliminary study of light load combustion characteristics of a two-stroke DISI engine applying free armature injection(FAI) technology. The experimental results show that FAI DISI technology could perfectly eliminate short-circuiting of scavenging mixture, which caused the high HC emission level and high fuel consumption rate for two-stroke engines, and the combustion instability in light load conditions, which came from high residual gas rate, could be improved by using a by-pass intake port with proper control of injection quantity and injection timing, which could be used to adjust the engine torque. But higher grade stratification combustion of in-cylinder mixture was needed in the idling condition, which meant that further improvement was needed for the present combustion system.
