Abstract

OBJECTIVE To explore the risk factors for urinary tract infections in the elderly patients with type 2diabetes and put forward corresponding prevention measures so as to improve the clinical treatment.METHODS A total of 135elderly patients with type 2diabetes who were treated in the hospital from Feb 2011to Mar 2013were recruited in the study, then the risk factors for urinary tract infections in 47patients were analyzed, and the statistical analysis was performed with the use of SPSS13.0software.RESULTS The univariate logistic analysis and the multivariate analysis showed that the independent risk factors for urinary tract infections in the elderly patients with type 2diabetes included the hypoalbuminemia(P=0.016),advanced age(more than 70years old))(P=0.073),high-glucose(P=0.028),high glycated hemoglobin(more than 7%)(P=0.027),indwelling catheter(P=0.031),and complication of other infections(P=0.032),however,the incidence of the urinary tract infections was not associated with the gender, use of antibiotics,or body mass index(P0.05).The gram-negative bacteria were the predominant pathogens.CONCLUSIONIt is an effective way to actively control the blood glucose and strengthen the nutrition so as to reduce the incidence of complication of urinary tract infections in the elderly patients with type 2diabetes.
