Abstract

The optimum conditions for the colour reaction of nickel with the reagent 7 (4,5 dimethyl 2 thiazolylazo) 8 quinolinol (DMTAQ) was studied.A red colour complex was formed from Ni(Ⅱ) and DMTAQ in the presence of OP at pH5.5.The complex has an absorption maximum at 556nm.The molar absorptivity is 1.2×10 5 L·mol -1 ·cm -1 ,Beer's law is obeyed for 0~12μg/25 mL of nickel. This method has been used for the determination of nickel in alloy steels with satisfactory results.
