Value of the Contrast-enhanced Ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced CT in preoperative localization of pancreatic insulinoma

Purpose To compare the accuracy of the contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(CEUS) with contrast-enhanced CT in preoperative detection of insulinoma.Methods Fourteen patients(25 female and 16 male range18~75 years old;mean age,42.9±12.45 years old) with clinical and biochemical signs of pancreatic insulinoma who underwent CT and CEUS were reviewed.The accuracy of preoperative diagnoses location of the lesions was evaluated and compared with surgical findings based on palpation and intraoperative sonography.Results Forty-one stances of biochemically proven insulinoma were identified.Of the 41 patients treated surgically,38 had contrast-enhanced CT and 34 had CEUS,with successful localisation in22(57.8%) by contrast-enhanced CT and 29(85.3%) by CEUS respectively.The analysis showed that the sensitivity and the accuracy had a significant difference between CEUS and CT(P0.05).Conclusion The sensitivity and the accuracy of CEUS is more helpful than CT in preoperative detection of pancreatic insulinoma.
