Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the curative effect of preserved human amniotic membrane transplantation for the conjunctival reconstruction and the prevention from recurrence after excision of pterygium. Methods: 36 eyes of pterygium,including 4 eyes of re-set pterygium were excised.The conjunctiva was excised between corneal limbus from 1∶30 to 4∶30 Hrs position and the site of near the plica semilunaris.Preserved human amniotic membrane was transplanted to cover the exposed sclera. Results: All the cases got satisfied curative effect (100%) during the follow up of 5~16 months (mean 10 months).Corneal epithelium recovered within 3 days after surgery,Amniotic membrane grafts edema disappeared within 10 days.The neovascularization in amniotic membrane graft were found 2~3 weeks after operation. Conclusions: Pterygium excision with preserved human amniotic membrane transplantation can significantly prevent the recurrence of pterygium.
