Antibiotic Resistance of 434 Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To study the drug sensitivity and drug resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to 38 commonly used antibiotics. METHODS To collect data of the 434 strains of bacteria separated from clinical specimen from Jan 1998 to Feb 2002 and make analyses on the drug sensitivity test. RESULTS The average drug sensitivity rate of P. aeruginosa to 38 commonly used antibiotics is 37.59%, average drug resistance rate is 62.41%. The drug resistant strains to more than triple drugs account for 78.57%. The sensitivity rate of cefoperazone/sulbactam is the highest (87.50%), the others in order are amikacin (86.27%) and imipenem(84.69%). CONCLUSIONS P. aeruginosa is one of the common pathogens in clinics. The problem of drug resistance is very prominent. With the patient infected by P. aeruginosa, it should be first treated experiencely by cefoperazone/sulbactam, amikacin and imipenem, et al.
