Methods The clinical data of 102 ears of secretory otitis media after radiotherapy for head carcinoma. The sequential therapy was selected to the treatment:first, just expectant treatment with drugs for one week to two weeks, when expectant treatment were ineffective, then auripuncture and myringotomy with grommet insertion were given to the patients. Results There were only six healing case in 102 ears with expectant treatment, other 96 ears were treated with auripuncture,in result,59 ears were cured, the cure rate was 61.4%(59/96),5 ears were perform,32 ears were not cured; 32 ears were treated with myringotomy with grommet insertion,8 ears were cured,13 ears were simply perform,11 ears were perform and infection. Conclusions Expectant treatment for secretory otitis media after radiotherapy was not very effective Although auripuncture and myringotomy with grommet insertion were the common clinical methods for treatment with secretory otitis media, auripunction was suggested to be applied in the secretory otitis media after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and the complication of myringotomy with grommet insertion should be attened.
