Abstract
Shakespeare's plays have exerted an imperceptible influence on Cao Yu,for numerous resemblances can be found in their plays,as is manifest as follows: weak and hesitant heroes with a strong Oedipus Complex subconsciously,the omnipresence of the revenge themes and the establishment of supernatural images in plot arrangement.Reference and imitation of this kind is an inevitable act for Cao Yu to reconstruct the Chinese national spirit and to awaken the self-independence consciousness of the Chinese people.
