Abstract
The playwright Cao Yu's most outstanding contribution in modern and contemporary literature is that he has created a series of typical characters.The characters either thedominant parentsin feudal family or the new women affected by theMay 4thnew ideological trend are all deeply affected by the society at that time and possess the dual nature of feudalism and anti-feudalism.Cao Yu has created these characters through the skills of comparison and irony,which is conducive to exacerbate the drama conflicts,enrich and deepen the meaning and significance of the works.
