Abstract

Objective:To study the expression of KAI1 protein and its clinicopathological significance in gastric carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining(S-P method) was used to detect the expression of KAI1 protein in 50 cases of gastric carcinoma and 13 cases of gastric benign pathological change and 7 cases of normal gastric tissues. Results: The positive expression rate of KAI1 protein in gastric carcinoma tissues(22%) was significantly lower than that in gastric benign pathological change(84.6%)(P0.05) and normal gastric tissues(100%)(P0.05). The positive expression rate of KAI1 protein in low-grade carcinoma(12.1%) was lower than that in high-grade carcinoma(41.2%)(P0.05).The positive expression rate of KAI1 protein was reduced gradually with the advancement of the depth of tumor infiltration (T166.7%,T223.5%,T315.0%,T40).The positive expression rate of KAI1 protein in gastric carcinoma with lymph node metastasis(13.2%) was lower than that without lymph node metastasis(50.0%);It was found that the high expression of KAI1 protein was not related to carcinoma situation、size and gender、age of patients. Conclusion: These data suggest that in advanced gastric carcinoma KAI1 protein is down-regulated and the decrease in KAI1 protein expression plays an important role in the malignant advancement of gastric carcinoma, therefore detection of KAI1 protein might be a potential valuable indicator for staging human gastric carcinoma and predicting the prognosis.
