Five-Year Summary Report on the Treatment of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia with Arsenic Trioxide,All-trans Retinoic Acid and Chemotherapy

Abstract

Objective To observe the effectiveness of arsenic trioxide(As2O3),all-trans retinoic acid(ATRA) and chemotherapy in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia(APL).Methods When 40 cases of diagnosis APL from 1996 to 2006 turned to complete remission,24 cases were subsequently treated with arsenic trioxide,all-trans retinoic acid and chemotherapy,16 cases were treated with all-trans retinoic acid only.The five-year survival rate and the relapse rate between them were observed.Results The relapse rate was 4% and 26.6%,the five-year survival rate was 96% and 81% in different therapies.Conclusions The long-term survival is high and the relapse rate is low in acute promyelocytic leukemia treated with arsenic trioxide,all-trans retinoic acid and chemotherapy.
