Abstract
To improve the toughness of polypropylene(PP)/sisal fibers(SF)composites through the addition of polyolefin elastomer(POE)and maleic anhydride grafted polyolefin elastomer(POE-g-MAH),the effects of the elastomer and fiber content on the mechanical properties and the effecting reason of the SF/PP/elastomer composites were investigated. The results showed that both POE and POE-g-MAH had good toughening effect on SF enhanced PP composites. On the toughening effect part,POE was better than POE-g-MAH;in the low content of elastomer process, however, when the content of the elastomer was more than 30%,POE-g-MAH was better than POE.At the aspects of tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength and flexural modulus,POE-g-MAH was superior to POE.
