Abstract

The polyolefin elastomer (POE,ethylene octene copolymer) was used as the impact modifier for PP in this paper. The processability, crystallizing behavior and mechanical properties of PP/POE and PP/EPDM blends were analyzed comparitively by Torque Rheometer,Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and mechanical test respectively. The results showed that POE was superior to EPDM on processability and toughening effect. The effects of POE content on the mechanical properties of the PP/POE/CaCO 3 composites were also studied. When adding POE,the notched impact strength of PP/CaCO 3 blends was improved dramatically, while the tensile strength, flexible strength and modulus were reduced. However, the flexible modulus of the composite was still close to that of PP even if 15wt% POE was added.
