Anti-depressant effect of Guizhi Jieyu Capsules

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the anti-depressant effect of Guizhi Jieyu Capsules(Ramulus Cinnamomi,Morindae Officinalis Radix,Glycyrrhizae Radix,et al) on rat model of chronic unpredictable mild stress.METHODS Sixty rats were divided randomly into five groups: two treatment groups(giving Guizhi Jieyu Capsules for oral treatment for 6 weeks,6.4 g/kg and 1.6 g/kg once a day),Fluoxetine group(giving Fluoxetine for oral treatment),model and control group.On the base of establishing depressed rat model,the weight of rats was recorded and the behavior of rats was observed with open field test,sucrose consumption test and forced swimming test.RESULTSThe rat model of depression was established successfully in the 6th week.In Guizhi Jieyu Capsules treated group,the weight increased from 181.19 g to 235.59 g,the horizontal scores of open field test was boosted from 13.63 to 79.60,the vertical scores from 3.00 to 14.50 and consumption of sugar water rose from 50.22% to 62.36%,they were significantly higher than those in the depression group.But the immobility time in forced swimming test was significantly lower than that in depression group from 64.50 s to 42.10 s.CONCLUSION Guizhi Jieyu Capsules can prevent rat from the abnormal behavior of the depression.
