Abstract

Objective: To observe the efficacy of MEBO in treating obstetrical lateral incision wounds. Method: (1). In MEBO group, after washing the vulva with 0.5% potassium permanganate, MEBO was applied 2 times a day to the wounds to a thickness of 2 mm to 3 mm, until the stitches were removed. (2). In 95% ethanol group, after washing the vulva with 0.5% potassium per- manganate, 95 % ethanol was applied locally until stitches were removed. (3). Patients might have wound infections received extra treatment of intramuscular injection of ampicillin, 2 times a day. Result: MEBO was superior to 95 % ethanol. In MEBO group, the number of the cases with wounds swollen and pain after 48 hours was fewer than that in 95% ethanol group (P0.01). The number of wounds with grade A healing was more than that in 95% ethanol group (P0.05). Conclusion: MEBO is very, efficacious in treating obstetrical later- al incision wounds. It helps to subside the swelling, stop pain and promote wound healing. It is safe and reliable.
