Abstract

【Objective】To observe the antidepressant effect of total alkaloids from semen zizyphi spinosae in mice.【Methods】According to body weight,50 mice were divided into blank control group, positive control group, low dose group, moderate dose group, high dose group randomly. The total alkaloids from semen zizyphi spinosae were examined by tail suspension test(TST),reserpine reversal test(RRT) and open field test(OFT) in mice.【Results】The result showed that total alkaloids could markedly shorten immobility time in tail suspension tests in a dose-dependent manner, and ameliorated reserpine-induced hypothermia. There were no significant differences on mice spontaneous activity in OFT.【Conclusions】The total alkaloids from semen zizyphi spinosae possesses antidepressant effects.
