Abstract
Potassium persulfate was a quite effective initiator in graft copolymerization of styrene with starch. The appropriate initiator consistency was 0.3g. It was suitable that the emulsifying agent consistency was 0.35g.The experiment showed that the grafting efficiency was suitable if the starch was gelatinized under 75℃ for 30 minutes. The optimal reaction temperature was 65℃.The optimal reaction time was 3 hours. The appropriate grafting efficiency was obtained when the weight ratio of starch and monomers was 1∶4.It was found that grafting degree approached 257.0%.Further study showed that methylacrylate is better than acrylic.
