Abstract
A new type of grafted starch was prepared using dry process, which can be used on the sizing of polyester/cotton instead of PVA. The effects of reacting temperature, time, the dosage of initiator and monom- er on the grafting yield, grafting efficiency and monomer conversion were discussed. The results indicated that the grafting starch with the best grafting yield and the grafting efficiency could be obtained under the condition of 35 ℃, 2% initiator (on the weight of starch), 50% monomer(on the weight of starch) and 3.5 h reaction time. The SEM result showed that the polymer was grafted on the surface of starch granule. The structure analysis indicated that the copolymerization took place, and the product was the copolymer of acrylic acid, acrylamide, butyl acrylate and starch.
