The Expression of S100A4 in Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Its Clinical Significance

Objective To analyze the expression and clinical significance of tumor metastasis-associated protein S100A4 protein in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC) tissue.Methods The expression of S100A4 protein was measured by using EliVision two steps immunohistochemical technology in 42 cases of LSCC,20 cases of adjacent normal laryngeal mucosa,the relationship of S100A4 expression with clinical pathologic factors in LSCC was also analyzed.Results ①There was 31.0%(13 of 42) of cases with positive expression of S100A4 protein in LSCC tissue,while the positive expression of S100A4 protein was not observed in 20 cases of adjacent normal laryngeal mucosa;there was significant statistical difference between the case group and control group for S100A4 protein expression(P0.01).②Tumors with lymph node metastases(50.0%) had more S100A4 protein expression than those without metastasis(13.6%),P0.05;as for the S100A4 protein expression between Ⅲ+Ⅳ stage and Ⅰ+Ⅱ stage,the difference was significant(44.0%:11.8%),P0.05;S100A4 protein expression had no relation to the patient's age,sex,tumor site,histological grade and T-stage(P0.05,respectively).Conclusion S100A4 protein may play an important role in the occurrence and development of LSCC,it was suggested that S100A4 can be a useful marker for predicting tumorigenesis,invasion and metastasis potential of LSCC.
