Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of mitotic arrest deficient 2(MAD2) protein in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC) tissues. Methods The expression of MAD2 protein was measured by immunohistochemistry(EliVision two steps) in 55 cases of LSCC tissues,30 cases of adjacent normal laryngeal mucosa tissues, and the relationship of MAD2 expression with clinical pathologic factors in LSCC was also analyzed. Results The positive rates of MAD2 protein in LSCC tissues(58.2%,32/55) was lower than those in adjacent normal laryngeal mucosa tissues(86.7%,26/30),P0.01.Poorly differentiated tumors(47.1%,16/34) expressed lower MAD2 protein to well differentiated ones(76.2%,16/21),P0.05.Tumors with lymph node metastasis(35.0%,7/20) had lower MAD2 protein expression than those without metastasis(71.4%,25/35),P0.01.MAD2 protein expression had no relation to the patient's sex, age, smoking, tumor site,T-stage and clinical stage(P0.05,respectively).Conclusion MAD2 protein may play an important role in the tumorigenesis, differentiation, lymphatic metastasis of LSCC,and can be a useful marker for diagnosis and prognosis of LSCC.
