Abstract

Objective:To study the disinfecting effect of calcium hydroxide in root canals of infected teeth.Method:90 infected cases with chronic apical periodontitis were divided into observation group and control group randomly, each group including 45 cases. In the observation group calcium hydroxide was placed in the instrumented root canals of 45 teeth;Formocresol was used for intracanal medicament in control group. The clinical effect was observed in 1 week after intracanal medication and after root canal treatment two years later.Result:The obvious therapeutic effect of observation group was higher(86.67%) than that of control group(62.22%) with statistical significance(P0.001).The achievement ratio of observation group was higher(88.10%) than that of control group(69.76%),with statistical significance(P0.05).And in the other aspects, the observation group was superior to the control group. Conclusion:The clinical effect of Calcium hydroxide was good and it could be widely used in root canal disinfection.
