Abstract

Objective:To study the curative effect of calcium hydroxide as intracanal medication of teeth with Chronic apical pefiodontitis.Methods:100 infected cases with Chronic apical pefiodontitis were divided into observition group and control group randomly, each group including 50 cases. In the observation group calcium hydroxide was placed in the instrumented root canals of 50 teeth;Formo cresol(FC)was used for intracanal dressing in the canals of other 50 cases. The curative effects were ob- served 1 week after the final obturations and evaluated based on radiographic and clinical results using the periapical index(PAI). Results:The healing and incompletely healing rates in calcium hydroxided ressing group were 96%,those of the Formo cresol dressing group were 86%.There was statistically significant difference between the groups(P0.05).Conclusions:Calcium hy- droxide is an ideal intracanal medicament.
