The correlation between healthy behaviors and self-care agency among community stroke patients

Objective To determine the status of healthy behaviors and self-care agency in community stroke patients,and anlayze their correlation.Methods One hundred and twenty stroke patients were recruited and investigated with Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile(HPLP) and Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale(ESCA).Results The mean score of healthy behavior was(127.76±18.12).The order of the six dimensions was ranked as nutrition,stress management,interpersonal relationships,self-actualization,health responsibility and physical activity.The mean score of self-care agency was 105.80±13.71.The order of the four dimensions was ranked as self-concept,health knowledge,self-care responsibility and self-care skills.There was a moderate positive correlation between healthy behavior and self-care agency(r=0.548,P0.05).Conclusion It is suggested to design and implement community-based nursing interventions to enhance stroke patients' self-care agency and promote their healthy behaviors,thereby to improve their quality of life.
