Abstract

As a product of figurative thinking, physiognomy can partly predict matters not far ahead but fails to foretell things hundreds of years away. However, once this kind of skill was employed in works like Zuo Zhuan and Guo Yu, it was bound to be remolded to serve the writing purpose of the author, thus having been different from the original mysterious skill.
